Cyprus Orienteering Championships – Delikipos

Travel: Come off the Nicosia -Limassol highway at the Kornos exit onto the E143 and head West past Kornos village for approx. 3.5km and the picnic site is on your left. Using google maps:

Timings: Registration will be available from 1015 hrs and the course will be open from 1030 hrs. Last start will be at 1115 hrs and the course will close at 1300 hrs. No starts will be available after 1115 hrs. Prizegiving will be held at approx. 1300 hrs and everyone is requested to remain for this. Please note that League Prizes for 2023 will also be awarded at this event.

Courses:  There will now be THREE Courses. TWO courses will be available for INDIVIDUAL entries ONLY. Family groups and children will be permitted on the C Course ONLY.

1. Championship Course – A technically difficult course of approximately 5.5 km.

NOTE: To participate on this Championship Course you must be in possession of a valid KOA Health Card. A copy of which must be sent to the organisers with your registration.

2. B Course  –   A less technical course of approximately 3.6 km.

3. C Course – A less technical course of approximately 2.1 km with less climb but please note the ground is rough.

These secondary lesser courses are open to all others and no KOA Card is currently required.

Terrain & Embargoed area: The area is hilly, partly forested and partly open, with plenty of interesting prominent features and crags. There are some tracks and a few paths. The area from Delikipos Bridge to Kornos on the South side of the road is now embargoed and out of bounds till the event.

Map: The Delikipos 1:7,500 map, owned by Orientaction Club, will be used. This detailed map was last used for CIOF 2022 and will be updated for the event. Maps will be pre-marked and printed on waterproof paper. Clear plastic covers will be available too. Loose control descriptions will be available.

Equipment: Runners are to provide their own compass and whistle. A whistle check will be made before the start for your own safety!  NO WHISTLE = NO RUN! Full leg coverage is recommended. Sport-ident electronic timing will be used. Own Sport-ident cards may be used. Hire of Sport-ident card is charged at €2 but please note that loss of hired Sport-ident card will be charged at €40 each.

NEW SI Card for purchase:  We have some new SI cards for purchase at €35 each. Please indicate in the form if you wish to purchase one and you can collect and pay for it at registration on the day.

Facilities: There are toilets at the picnic site. The nearest cafes/restaurants are in Delikipos or Kornos villages. Please bring your own water and refreshments.

Entry Fee: For this Championship, an entry fee of €5.00 per person will be charged for local club members (not including SI card hire which is €2.00) payable on the day at registration. Children under twelve are half price. Children under five are FREE! For non local Club members the entry fee is €7.00 per person (not including SI card hire which is €2.00). Please note that any late entries after Thursday 30th November, will be charged DOUBLE entry fees, so please register in time. 

Prizes: There will be prizes for the overall 1st 2nd and 3rd male and female on the Championship Course and for the overall male and female winner on the B Course. Depending on entry numbers there may be prizes for veterans 50yrs and over.
